Carve 4 Cancer Gives $10,000 to St. Luke's Cancer Center
Carve for Cancer writes $10,000 check to support cancer patients at St. Luke’s Cancer Center
Last year Carve for Cancer Inc. announced it’s formation of the Live Like Brent Foundation which seeks to provide financial assistance to individuals in their fight against blood cancers. What started off as a humble goal to seek out and help a few individual, has exploded into an amazing partnership with some of the best hospitals in the country. St. Luke’s Cancer Center is one of those hospitals.
Earlier this year Carve for Cancer officially launched the Live Like Brent Foundation at St. Luke’s Cancer Center with a $10,000 endowment to the renowned hospital. Now patients battling cancer at St. Luke’s will have access to funds that can be used to cover a variety of costs. The foundations funds will be disbursed by qualified social workers and support staff at the hospital.
“When we started this foundation all we knew was that we wanted to have a major impact and ensure our donors dollars would be put to the absolute best use possible.” Said Josh Frank of Carve for Cancer. “Originally we planned on selecting patients ourselves, but quickly learned the great need so many hospitals had in finding funds to ease the financial bourdon put on their patients. We couldn’t be happier to have partners like St. Luke’s Cancer Center to help see that our funds go to great use!”
The foundations name honors the late founder of Carve for Cancer, Brent P. Evans.
Aisling Carroll, who was responsible for the formation of the Live Like Brent Foundation noted. “Our founder, Brent, who unfortunately passed away from complications with lymphoma, knew all too well of the struggles associated with fighting cancer…. twice!” She stated. “He was the type of guy that when he beat cancer the first time, he immediately started focusing his energy on helping others with their fight. I know he would be proud of what this foundation is achieving.”

The Man Behind the C4C Brand - Marcus McMillen
Introducing C4C creative director, Marcus McMillen
As you may have noticed, the branding for Carve 4 Cancer has transitioned over the years. When Brent Evans founded Carve 4 Cancer he was putting everything together on his own. Sure, he had lots of friends and family help along the way, but for the most part, it was Brent's ingenuity and creativity that began building the brand that would become what it is today. However, if there was one thing (and there were many) that Brent was good at, it was finding and inspiring others to work with him on his mission of shredding blood cancers. Enter graphic designer and branding extraordinaire, Marcus McMillen.
Marcus with his wife, Adaline
Marcus joined the Carve 4 Cancer team is 2016 and would soon after be named Creative Director. Everything from the iconic circular Carve 4 Cancer logo, to our entire line of merch and the incredible signage at our events, was designed by Marc. When he's not being inundated new design needs by C4C team members, Marc works full-time doing top-of-the-line design work for Indiana based marketing firm, Labov. His work can be seen all over from fortune 500 megacompanies to small independent businesses. Like the rest of the team, Marcus works for C4C as an unpaid volunteer working hard for a mission he believes in so deeply.
"My brother-in-law is Fletcher Moppert, a cancer survivor and part of the Carve 4 Cancer executive team. I am also an avid snowboarder and try to get out on the mountain as much as being a father and husband allows." McMillen said. "When Fletcher introduced me to C4C and the amazing work they were doing, I just had to get involved. I have been working with the team ever since, and love every minute it!"
"The Carve 4 Cancer team is extremely fortunate to have Marcus on board and we attribute so much of our success and growth to his amazing work." said C4C Marketing Director, Josh Frank. "He is a true professional and allows us to present our brand in a way that accurately portrays the amount of work, time, and dedication we all put in as a team."
So next time you look up at an awesome C4C banner, or put on your C4C t-shirt, now you know the man behind the brand. Can't wait to see what he cooks up next!
10 Years Cancer Free - What a long strange trip its been.
After 10 years in remission from blood cancer, Carve 4 Cancer board member, Earl Stout, looks back on his journey.
Fighting cancer is a battle too many know all to well. It seems like everyone has a friend, mother, father, sister or loved one who has been touched by cancer. Carve 4 Cancer board member, Earl Stout, is one of those people. Earl battled cancer and after 10 years of remission he looks back on that battle and how it shaped his life. This is his story...
I consider this fall and winter season time my 10 year remission mark.
11 years ago in the end of October 2006, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma disease, stage 2B. It was located in the left of my neck and chest at the time of diagnosis. The tumor in my chest was the size of a grapefruit. Another two months and the tumor would have started to grow into my heart and pulmonary artery. If that had happened, I have the feeling I probably wouldn't be sharing my story with you.
I went through chemotherapy and radiation. Then the cancer spread to my left arm pit after undergoing 6 weeks of radiation treatment a grueling 5 times per day. My diagnosing oncologist suggested an autologous stem cell transplant. I had the stem cell procedure at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. After the autologous stem cell transplant and more radiation, I got my clean bill of health in the beginning of January 2008. The combination of the stem cell transplant and radiation is what put my cancer in remission along with other therapies and modalities.
If it wasn't for having my autologous stem cell transplant at Jefferson Hospital and doing volunteer work for the Jefferson Buddy program there, I would have never met Brent Evans. I met Brent and his Family on Christmas eve of 2010 when visited Brent while he was undergoing his 1st allogenic stem cell transplant. We instantly became friends that day and it's a day I will never forget and will cherish forever. He and I had many conversations, but one was particularly special. It was about his idea for a winter festival event that would raise money for blood cancer. I instantly connected with the idea and my mind began to envision what would become Carve 4 Cancer. Now, 4 festivals later and going into our 3rd year as a non-profit organization, it's amazing to think about all we have accomplished.
Earl Stout and Carve 4 Cancer Founder, Brent Evans
I have been snowboarding for nearly 25 years now (geez I am getting old). Little did I know that I would end up battling cancer and coming out on top as a Warrior Champion, defeating the Evil Beast of Cancer. If I had never been diagnosed with cancer I would have never learned, experienced, grown spiritually and had this amazing journey and figure out what I am capable of. Sometimes in life you have to accept things, even if they aren't the greatest. As with many challenges in life, for me there is a silver lining and blessing in disguise within my journey. I have accepted many things that at first that I did not want to and in the past had resisted with all I had. Now I am part of Carve 4 Cancer, building a Legacy and foundation in Brent's honor that is much bigger and bolder than I ever imagined. If I had never been diagnosed with cancer, would I be a part of all this? Who knows, that is a the Mystery and Destiny.
Celebrate Life everyday. Honor and be grateful for what and who you have.
See you February 3rd at Blue Mountain for Carve 4 Cancer 5
Cheers,
Earl Stout
Meet Bobby Burt, the youngest Carve Athlete Ambassador.
Bobby Burt joins the Carve 4 Cancer athlete ambassador team at just 11 years old, making him the youngest member of the team.
January 16, 2018. Philadelphia, PA
Carve 4 Cancer Welcomes Athlete Ambassador Bobby Burt
During the few months leading up to the February 3rd Carve 4 Cancer Winter Sports and Music Festival at Blue Mountain the Carve team is in a state of organized chaos. Coordinating vendors, working with the mountain on final details, printing flyers, creating merchandise and doing everything else under the sun to make sure things go off with out a hitch. When Bobby Burt reached out to Carve 4 Cancer things seemed to stop for a moment. The 11 year old wrote an impassioned message to the team through our website. Bobby explained how he competed in a past Carve 4 Cancer rail jam (competing against some older kids nonetheless) and took third place. He told us about his passion for skiing and how he would be competing in the USASA this year. He ended his message by letting us know he spends summers in Italy where he would be more than happy to "sticker slap the entire country."
Bobby Burt in his Carve 4 Cancer Hoodie with his little brother, Matthew.
To say the Carve team was moved and inspired by the young man would be an understatement. Community Outreach director for Carve 4 Cancer, Aisling Carroll, swiftly organized a meeting with the little guy. Ais was blown away. She learned his Grandmother was a 22 year survivor of leukemia and that she got a bone marrow transplant from her sister in 1995. But more than anything she was impressed with his steadfast commitment to raising money and awareness on behalf of Carve 4 Cancer.
"Bobby loves the Cause almost as much as he love skiing itself" Aisling said. "He is dedicated to getting his younger generation of peers involved in the cause and out supporting and raising money in a big way. Bobby will be an incredible asset to our team and we're lucky to have him on board!"
Bobby doing what he does best.
Bobby is currently in 6th Grade at St. Philip Neri Catholic School in Lafayette Hill, PA. He started skiing when he was just 6 years old and started shredding the park when he was just 9. He has already raised well over $1K for Carve 4 Cancer and that's just the beginning. "I joined Carve 4 Cancer because I hope someday in my lifetime we will find a cure for cancer" Bobby stated. "I also joined because I want to help people while doing what I love to do, ski!"
Bobby is now on the official Carve 4 Cancer Athlete Ambassador team and well on his way to being a serious fundraiser and contributor to the cause. The Carve Team has high expectations for Bobby and have very little doubt he will deliver. "It's fantastic to see a youngster like Bobby taking the initiative to join the fight against Cancer." Said Josh Frank, Marketing Director of Carve 4 Cancer. "Bobby is a perfect fit for everything our organization is trying to accomplish and I can't wait to see what this little dude has in store for us!"
New Carve Athlete Ambassador, Yassine Boundouq!
Carve 4 Cancer is thrilled to announce the newest member of their Ambassador Athlete team, Yassine Boudouq.
November 21, 2017
Yassine Boundouq Joins C4C!
Carve 4 Cancer, the blood cancer shredding charity based in Philadelphia, PA, announced that professional longboard skateboarder, Yassine Boundouq, has joined the Carve 4 Cancer mission to shred blood cancers as an Athlete Ambassador. The 23 year old Moraccan has a style all his own and takes longboarding to a whole new level. He is on a mission to not only help the organization shred cancer but to bring longboarding to his local community in Morocco. In fact, Yassine considers himself an ambassador of the longboard and with his smooth, flawless style... who better? When he's not on his board, Boundouq is an inspirational speaker, traveler, photographer, and filmmaker.
"For the moment I'm sponsored by the lovely brand Loaded Boards and Orangatang wheels. For Carve 4 Cancer, I'm really stoked to ride for the cause. I have many plans and one of my goals to make it known by entire world, not only in USA."
The Carve 4 Cancer team could not be happier to have Yassine join the team. Earl Stout, a board member for C4C, first met Boundouq in the springtime of 2017 and the two instantly connected.
"Yassine is one of the best guys you'll meet in the longboarding world. He is passionate about the sport and puts everything he has in whatever he does. He sets his eyes on a goal and goes out and gets it. We're psyched he will be bringing that same energy and focus to Carve 4 Cancer."
If you've never seen him in action, check out this video of him tearing it up. Congratulations to both Yassine and Carve 4 Cancer for what is likely to be an amazing partnership for years and years to come!

Mike Sears joins the "Carve Team"
Carve for Cancer Inc. launches new Carve Team with its inaugural team member, Mike Sears!
Carve for Cancer Inc. Welcome's Mike Sears to the "CarveTeam"
October 17, 2017
Carve for Cancer Inc. has launched its newest initiative, the Carve Team, with its inaugural athlete, Mike Sears. The Carve Team will be comprised of athletes who are connected to Carve for Cancer's mission and are active in helping further the organizations goals.
Mike is an east coast shredder who has been snowboarding for over 17 years. He connected with Carve for Cancer in the organization's early days and has been a loyal supporter ever since.
"Carve for Cancer means a great deal to me." Sears said. "There are some great people behind the organization who put a lot of heart into it and into making sure that the money they raise has the greatest impact. They put on several events and fundraisers on and off snow to raise money for the Cancer Research and spreading awareness."
Mike has a personal connection, as with so many others who have been touched by cancer. "It's one of the leading causes of death and needs all the research it can get. He said. "I have lost family and friends to this terrible disease and it feels good to be a part of something that's standing to fight it."
The executive team at Carve for Cancer shared Mike's excitement. "We couldn't be more excited to have Mike as our first official Carve Team member. The dude can absolute shred and we know he has big things in store for the industry." Said Cameron Ferarra, Executive Director of Carve for Cancer. Earl Stout, a board member for Carve for Cancer agreed. "I've known Mike for quite some time and he's just a great guy and a sick rider." Stout said. "We're stoked to have him on the team helping in the fight to shred blood cancers."
Sears has been riding for most of his life and has attracted a number of sponsors including Sims Snowboards, Technine, Zeal Optics, Shred Soles, Baf Wax and Big Boulder PARK.
Spend a few minutes with Mike and its clear snowboarding is his passion. "I love snowboarding because it allows me to feel happy about everything, and feel like nothing negative could happen in life." He said. "Hitting a big jump and flying through the air feels so free, and laying out a massive pow slash couldn't feel any better. It brings out such a positive energy in me and I use it to help with my riding. Snowboarding has given and taught me so much. Its brought me to so many places I never imagined I would see and has introduced me to so many different people from around the world. I would never take back any part of it, from losing bags and luggage to injuries I don't regret it all. It's what I love to do and I couldn't see myself doing anything different."
Carve for Cancer Inc. welcomes new team member!

SYNOPSIS: The 5th annual Carve 4 Cancer that raises funds for and brings awareness to the fight against blood cancers will be held at Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, Pa., on Feb. 3, 2018. Brent Evans created the Carve 4 Cancer charity in 2012, following his first round of a two-year battle with the disease. He passed away due to complications from the cancer in July 2017 when the disease came back for a second time
Press Release
PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 14, 2017) — If there’s one way to draw attention to blood, it’s finding a way to get it racing.
Carve 4 Cancer, http://www.carve4cancer.com a non-profit, charitable organization designed to increase awareness, and raise research funds for blood cancers, announced its exciting and adrenaline pumping 5th annual Carve 4 Cancer will be held Feb. 3, 2018, at a new location, the Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, Pa.
Brent Evans, with the help of friends and family, created the charity and the Winter Festival fundraiser in 2012 after a two-year battle with a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. What started as a small, winter fundraiser in the Pocono Mountain region, is now a full-scale 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation raising tens of thousands of dollars with multiple campaigns, sponsors and supporters nationwide.
Brent was an avid snowboarding enthusiast and outdoor lover. He believed a winter festival with live indoor and outdoor concerts, snowboarding competitions, art installations, and great food and drink would serve well to create a fun, boisterous event. It would draw plenty of guests willing to help a worthy cause and have some fun at the same time, he thought.
Mr. Evans was right. The winter festivals have been held each year since 2012 and the February 2017 festival was the most successful yet. The event had sponsors including Milwaukee Tool, K2, Gilson Snowboards, Tito’s Vodka along with many other businesses and individuals who supported the event as well.
Thousands from throughout the northeast attended the event. Sadly, Carve 4 Cancer 2017 was Brent’s last as he passed away due to complications from the disease in July 2017 at just 33 years old. Importantly, his legacy lives on with the help of close friends and loved ones who sit on the board of the non-profit charity. Also, after his passing the hashtag “#LiveLikeBrent” was created to commemorate how Brent lived life to the fullest, and people have been sharing their moments ever since.
“Brent was a very close friend to me, as he was to so many others,” said Josh Frank, a lifelong snowboarder and Carve 4 Cancer Marketing Director. “He had an electric personality. Losing Brent was devastating to so many. This charity is his legacy and his longtime friends and colleagues are dedicated to seeing his vision through, expanding Carve 4 Cancer to mountains all across the US, and finding a cure for this horrible disease.”
Frank said Blue Mountain Resort will be ideal for the fundraiser given its numerous amenities and proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Trenton.
The popular venue is celebrating its 40th anniversary this upcoming season and is home to 164 acres of skiable terrain. Blue Mountain Resort also boasts the highest vertical drop in the state at 1,082 feet. In addition to 39 ski trails, 16 lifts and 39 tubing lanes, Blue Mountain Resort maintains a full-service mountain top restaurant and several outdoor activities in the “green season,” including a high ropes course called the Summit Aerial Park, Outdoor Laser Tag, Action Archery, and Segway Tours.
The resort prides itself in giving back to the community, and is excited to partner with Carve 4 Cancer.
“Our mission is to get people outside and give them a reason to keep coming back, said Melissa Yingling, marketing specialist at Blue Mountain Resort. “Partnering with an organization like Carve 4 Cancer not only brings awareness to outdoors sports, but also to a cause created by an outdoor enthusiast himself. We are excited to host the event this year, and look forward to the success it will have, raising money for cancer research.”
Frank noted that 100 percent of the board members and volunteers for Carve 4 Cancer are unpaid and that all funds raised go toward making a maximum impact in the fight against blood cancer.
Dr. Andrei Shustov, M.D., is one of the main recipients of the donations from the various Carve 4 Cancer events. He is performing groundbreaking research in the field of Hepatosplenic T-Cell Lymphoma, the rare form of leukemia contracted by Mr. Evans.
Dr. Shustov is the lead investigator in analyzing data from multiple institutions in the country to better understand the disease process and the biology of this rare form of T-Cell Lymphoma.
“Understanding the disease is the first step to finding a cure,” Dr. Shustov said. “The funds from Carve 4 Cancer will support this very important research, and we would like to thank Carve 4 Cancer for their very generous donations on behalf of all investigators.”
Aisling Carroll, Brent’s girlfriend and Carve 4 Cancer board member, said she so proud his legacy is thriving.
“During Brent’s cancer journey,” Carroll said, “he would periodically ask me, ‘What if I don’t make it and what happens when I’m gone?’
“I’d tell him we weren’t close to crossing that bridge and to not worry about it. Losing him so suddenly was traumatic.
“When he was sick, he was excited for Carve to be rolling into its fifth year but worried about not being able to make calls or meetings. I’m happy to say and tell Brent right now, he still doesn’t have to worry. The team and I are going to blow this year’s festival out of the water, and carry his memory and his legacy along for the ride.”
One of the main events during the 5th Annual Pocono Mountain Carve 4 Cancer is the Rail Jam. The snowboarding and ski competitions draw top talent from across the region in Men’s, Women’s and Grom’s divisions. Thousands of dollars worth of prizes will be up for grabs. The Carve 4 Cancer team will also be announcing more than 10 bands and musical guests, sponsors, on mountain vendors, thousands of dollars in raffle prizes and much more in the coming months.

Fellow board member Cameron Ferrara agreed.

About Carve 4 Cancer
Carve 4 Cancer https://www.carve4cancer.com is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the mission of shredding blood cancers through extreme sports events and fundraising. Carve was founded by east coast shredder and blood cancer warrior, Brent P. Evans. In 2010, Brent was diagnosed with stage IV hepatosplenic t-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma when he envisioned an epic snowboarding event to raise funds to shred cancer while being treated at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He passed away due to complications from the disease in June 2017 after battling the disease for a second time. The team is currently planning the 2018 event while expanding the organization. Brent P. Evans Memorial
We are sad to share the passing of our Founder, Board President and dear friend Brent P. Evans. It was Brent's vision that a Snowboarding festival could raise money to cure the disease he fought so hard himself.
We are sad to share the passing of our Founder, Board President and dear friend Brent P. Evans. It was Brent's vision that a Snowboarding festival could raise money to cure the disease he fought so hard himself. His indelible courage, positive outlook and unending desire to shred blood cancers has made Carve 4 Cancer what it is today. As the organization grew Brent had an incredible ability to bring others to our circle allowing them to expand upon his dream. Brent's eagerness to strengthen our group extended to knowing the personal battles and triumphs of every one of our members and his friendship was valued by all. If you were a first time volunteer or long time supporter Brent genuinely appreciated your help in his effort to further our cause. He was a totally unique, one of a kind legend and there will never be another like him.
We have put together a memorial hashtag for Brent. See some of the posts people have shared on our #LiveLikeBrent page here.
